The Director of Music
Lee Ward

Hailing from Liverpool, Lee Ward was appointed Assistant Organist at Chester Cathedral at the early age of 18 and then won a Foundation Scholarship and the Royal College of Organists' R.J. Pitcher Scholarship to the Royal College of Music.

While there, he won all of the available organ prizes and also organ scholarships at the Temple Church, St Paul's Cathedral and St Alban's Abbey, where we worked closely with John Scott, Barry Rose and John Birch.

He has given organ recitals in many of England's cathedrals and concert halls and has broadcast and recorded as an accompanist.

He has been Director of Music at The London Oratory School since 1996 when the Junior House and specialist music course were first established. There he runs the largest school music department in London. He has recently made President-Elect of the country’s largest organisation for music teachers, the Music Masters' Association (MMA)

He became Director of the Schola in March 2006 and under his direction the choir has met with wide critical acclaim in a varied repertoire from Monteverdi to Karl Jenkins. He has brought a new vitality to the choir and increased its public profile through concerts, recordings and touring. He is in increasing demand as a Choral conductor and adjudicator and has been interviewed about the work of the Schola on BBC radio and ITV.

Lee is also Director of Music at London’s Hampstead Parish Church, where he recently completed 13 years in post and where the professional adult choir has become renowned for its fine performances of a broad and diverse repertoire. Lee is musical director of the Colla Voce Singers, a young choir formed largely of former pupils of The London Oratory School.
