The Seagrave Stompers

The London Oratory School resident jazz band, the Seagrave Stompers, has been around for some time now, the present line-up for the last three years. The band has played at various school functions, including instrumental concerts and lunchtime recitals, but also functions outside school including a memorable appearance at the Commonwealth Club and a wedding reception at Sandhurst.

The musicians are hand-picked by the band’s founder member, Simon Ashenden, (English and drama teacher at the school) for their musical brilliance and eccentricity. The band’s instrumentation follows that of a traditional jazz band – four front-line instruments and four in the rhythm section. You may be treated also to the odd vocal. The repertoire is taken from jazz and popular tunes from the 1920s and 30s. Though the tunes are quite ancient by now, we hope they’ll be injected with the vibrancy of modern-day youth.
