The Newman Society was formed to provide a forum for debate and discussion in the sixth form. It provides a platform for speakers to visit the school to offer challenging and thought provoking talks which are usually followed by enthusiastic and intelligent questions and contributions from the student body. Speakers in the past have included, amongst others: Ann Widdecombe MP, Cherie Booth QC, Harriet Harman MP, John Simpson (World Affairs Editor of the BBC), Bruce Kent from CND, Ben Page (Director of IPSOS Mori), Denis McShane MP, John Pridmore (a reformed East End Gangster), Edward Leigh MP, Professor Hassassian (Palestinian Ambassador to the UK) and Mike Thexton, a plane hijack victim. Debates on the issue of Europe and mock elections have been organised by the committees in recent years too.
Forthcoming Events
All school events take place in the Newman Room (rooms 60-62) and commence at 3:45pm and end by 5:00pm.
