Welcome to the London Oratory School

A very warm welcome to The London Oratory School! Trad, but quirky, The London Oratory School is amongst the City’s most prestigious Roman Catholic schools. Founded and formed in the tradition of the light-hearted sixteenth-century Italian St Philip Neri and the profound nineteenth-century Englishman, St John Henry Newman, the School educates boys aged 7 to 18, with girls in the sixth form.

Our pastoral house system

The senior school is divided into six Houses, Campion, Fisher, Howard, More, Owen and Southwell, each with a Housemaster, who, together with the form teachers, is responsible for the academic and social well-being of the boys in the House.

Our rich curriculum

The school seeks to provide a broadly-based curriculum which promotes the spiritual, moral, cultural, mental and physical development of its pupils and of society; and prepares pupils for the responsibilities and experiences of adult life.

Our laboratories

We believe that the sciences should be a practical and hands-on experience for our pupils. Our modern laboratories provide the perfect specialist environment for our pupils to engage with the sciences in an exciting way.

The St Philip Neri Library

The St Philip's Library is a beautifully designed space in the heart of the school. With over twenty seven thousand volumes, it is among the best stocked and maintained school libraries in the UK.

Sports

The school has a well-equipped fitness centre, its own indoor swimming pool, a 4G pitch and the use of playing fields and a sports centre at Barn Elms. Whilst rugby is the main competitive sport of the school, water polo is also a very popular activity and the teams have been successful in local and national competitions.

The John McIntosh Arts Centre

Our Arts Centre has a 340 seat theatre, with fly-tower, dressing rooms and an orchestral pit. Throughout the year there is a varied programme of concerts, recitals, plays, and exhibitions by pupils, parents and visiting artists and performers.

Music

For pupils with an aptitude for music and a desire to study seriously, the school affords extensive opportunities for tuition, study and performing in public. The school carries on a tradition of choral music which dates back to Saint Philip Neri, a wide range of both sacred and secular music being sung by the various choirs and groups.

Prayer

The school’s chaplains are provided by the Fathers of the Oratory. Mass is said in the school chapel daily, each form attending Mass every three to four weeks, and there is a voluntary Mass before school on Friday. The school’s Annual Carol Service is also held at the Oratory Church on the last day of the Michaelmas term.

Catholic ethos

As a Catholic school, our Chapel is vital to sustaining the Catholic life of our school community. Seating 220, our school chapel is a spacious sanctuary at the heart of the spiritual life of the school.

Founded by the Oratorians, our school has a rich spiritual heritage. Among our patrons are St Phillip Neri and St John Henry Newman, both of whom introduced others to the joy of knowing Jesus and living the Christian life. We aspire to bring the same faith alive to our pupils today.
